Caged Suet Feeders
If Starlings and squirrels are a problem, a caged suet feeder is the answer. Downy Woodpeckers, nuthatches, Chickadees and wrens can easily slip through the 1 1/4 inch plastic coated wire to reach the suet, while larger woodpeckers can just as easily grab a snack with their 5" to 6" long tongue that is barbed and sticky on the end. That tongue is used to extract insects in cracks and crevices and coils up in the back of their skull when not needed. Save on suet with a caged suet feeder. Feed only the birds you want.
